Tuition Tax Credits For Students In Abroad
The Canadian government offers tuition tax credits to both national and international students.
Free Tax Clinic
The Canadian government offers tuition tax credits to both national and international students. Students are permitted to work part-time, and they are required to pay income tax for their earnings in Canada. Fortunately, they are given tuition tax credits as well. The purpose of the tuition tax credit is to permit students to cut their income taxes payable by considering the tuition fee paid for some type of educational program. Presently, tuition fees paid at a post-secondary educational institution for programs at a post-secondary school level will normally qualify for the tuition tax credit.
Tuition tax credit is like a percentage of discount that would be credited to the student’s tax account. This amount is not paid back in cash. The reimbursed or credited tax amount can be adjusted while making future tax payments.
Students are required to file their tax returns on time to claim their tuition credits. Tax credits get applied to students’ tax bills directly. It is important for international students to know that they can claim the interest that they have paid on their student loans.
Doing your tax filing by yourself could be complicated. That is where we refer you to Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) approved free tax clinics organized by various non-profit organizations. At free tax clinics approved by the Canada Revenue Agency, dedicated volunteers will give assistance to eligible individuals in preparing the documents and filing tax returns. The beneficiaries of these programs include:
- Newcomers
- Persons with disabilities
- International Students
- Adults aged 65 and above
- Indigenous Peoples
- Modest-income individuals
