What is the IELTS test?
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is a language proficiency test used to evaluate the English language competency (listening, reading, writing, and speaking of individuals who wish to study or work in destinations where English is the native language.
The British Council, Cambridge English, and IDP: IELTS Australia co-own IELTS. The test format of IELTS includes IELTS on paper and IELTS on computer. Anyone planning to pursue their higher studies or choosing for professional registration can book for IELTS Academic. In addition, anyone applying to study below degree level or migrating to Canada, New Zealand, the UK, or Australia can book for IELTS General Training. The test score validity is two years, and there is no limit to the number of times a test taker can attend the test.
IELTS - Exam Pattern
Total Test Duration: 2 hours, 45 minutes Listening: This section comprises 40 questions with a time limit of 30 minutes. The section has four parts (recordings) with ten questions each. The recordings are in different accents, such as British, Canadian, New Zealand, Australian and American. The question types include plan/map/diagram labelling, multiple choice, sentence completion etc. Reading: This section comprises 40 questions with a time limit of 60 minutes. The question types include matching features, sentence completion, diagram label completion etc. Writing: This section comprises two questions with a time limit of 60 minutes. The question types in IELTS Academic include explaining visual information and responding to an argument, problem, or point of view. The question types in IELTS General Training include describing a situation, writing a letter, and responding to an argument, problem, or point of view. Speaking: This section is a verbal interview with a time limit of 11-15 minutes. The conversations are recorded, and the questions include a personal introduction, speaking on a topic, questions on the topic, etc. |

You will be considered absent if you fail to appear for the test. An absent candidate will not get a refund.

If you have chosen IELTS on paper, you will get your official Test Report Form (TRF) at your postal address from the test centre 13 days after your exam date and if you have taken IELTS on computer 3 to 5 days after your exam date.

For IELTS on paper, the sections Reading and Writing Listening are administered on the same day; Speaking is conducted on the same day or before/after seven days of the test date. All sections will be conducted on the same day for IELTS on the computer.

Candidates who reschedule or cancel the test 5 weeks or more before the test date will get a refund after deducting an administration charge. Candidates who reschedule or cancel the test less than five weeks before the test date will not get a refund unless a medical certificate is produced. A candidate will get a refund after deducting an administration charge if the medical certificate is submitted within five days of the test date.

You should bring your valid ID proof, the same ID uploaded during the test registration. In addition, for the IELTS paper format test, bring pens, pencils, and erasers. Personal belongings, including watches or electronic devices, are strictly prohibited in the examination room.
