CELPIP – EXAM PREPARATION OVERVIEW

The CELPIP is owned and designated by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). It is a computer-based test assessing language proficiency that covers Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking components. The test is designed to be completed in a single sitting, and it takes about 3 hours to complete all four components. The results typically are available within 4 to 5 days. CELPIP scores are valid for two years, and there is no limit to the number of times a test-taker can attempt the test.

4 Sections 

Listening: This section comprises 38 questions with a time limit of 47-55 minutes. The section has six parts (recordings) with 5-8 questions each. The parts include Listening to problem-solving, daily life conversation, news items, discussion, viewpoints, and information.

Reading: This section comprises 38 questions with a time limit of 55-60 minutes. The section has four parts with 8-11 questions each. The parts include Reading to apply a diagram, correspondence, Information, and viewpoints.

Writing: This section comprises two tasks with a time limit of 53-60 minutes. The tasks include Writing an Email and Responding to Survey Questions.

Speaking: This section comprises eight tasks with a time limit of 15-20 minutes. The tasks include giving advice, talking about a personal experience, describing a scene, making predictions, comparing and persuading, dealing with a difficult situation, expressing opinions and describing an unusual situation.
